: oops, didn't mean to piss off a republican.
so, apparently we upset a young republican at the rasputina show. joe asked if anyone was voting for bush in between songs as some string tuning banter. it was turned into a pathetic attempt at an arts editorial at ub's terrific piece of journalism, the spectrum, including a crack about joe not looking like someone who could add beating someone up to their resume? sorry honey, your picture is attached to the piece, i wouldn't be afraid of you in an alley either, or your machismo grading of a man based on testoterone level. as a UB alumnus, i have a little background here, so i have no qualms about calling the paper the most ridiculous waste of student funds out there. the spectrum frequently just reports about themselves, like the disappearance this week of about 1,000 papers. guess what kids, it's free. you see, usually, they're used to seeing over 50% of the papers still sitting there in their booths wasting away because most at the university realize it's not worth the read. they also devoted an entire paper to how the sa was planning on cutting their funding because it wastes money. or how the campus security officers were being assholes for not letting them break university policy and stay in the student union past 12am. i especially loved the time when one of your reporters called me up at 12am to do a story on the art show the art historical association was putting on only to not have ever turned the piece in on time and wasting my time - did i mention at midnight? anyway i digress. back to the point. this expert piece of journalism basically tried to say that if you're supporting a political cause by speaking out against the president, you're selling out, it's been done before, you're "lacking moxie" simply because a lot of other people feel the same way. guess what - those people aren't standing in a crowded room of 100+ people not sure if there's someone who's going to yell "f*** off!" back at you. that my friend, IS moxie. your piece, however, is not. we never said we were trying to "be cool" as you put it. political discussion at a concert a few days before the election? GASP! who ever heard of such a thing? and did you stick around for Rasputina? I guess they had moxie when they spoke out against Bush as well, but since we're just that local band, we do not? so, fair spectrum reporter, thanks for the mention of our band. but for the record, it's "the wintersleepers". at least spell it right next time. liz drummer for the wintersleepers www.thewintersleepers.com (7 comments | talk to us) 17th October 2004
: cd's and butch girls with guitars
so, the butchies show was excellent. wells was very welcoming, even with all of the school problems they're having recently. we saw some awesome tent cities and young activists shouting protest chants during the butchies set, to which they accompanied with a phat drum beat. good times. the butchies were amazing as usual, sweaty smelly clothes and all. we have some bittersweet news. we only have 17 ep's left. that's great for us because we have sold enough to almost be out, but bad for you if you don't have it yet. as of this very moment, we're not planning on repressing these ep's as we'll be in the studio this winter ready to release our full-length early next year. so, get to the website and order yours now if you want one! bessie III finally reached icon status. she has her picture on the photos page of our site now. she's a cute little van. she's taken us over 7,000 miles since mid-april. liz<-drums 14th October 2004

: shows this weekend
Hi All, Our shows this weekend are unfortunately cancelled. The show in Owego had venue problems (AGAIN), so that show had to be cancelled. We've decided not to make the trek to CT for our show on Saturday due to issues with the van. Sorry to anyone planning on attending. ps - Liz says watch "the experiment". it's a german film, and it's enlightening to human nature. And in typical German fashion, there's no happy ending here. 21st September 2004

: another weekend, another mini-tour complete
so this weekend we invaded ithaca and new york city. ithaca was a blast, meeting up with our friends the witching. we also met a well-traveled bassist by the name of gretta currently performing with nyc band temptress. definitely look her up. we'd like to thank nyc for not fucking us for the first time ever. we had a great time at this little artsy indie bar in brooklyn called the lucky cat. some russians joined us as well, so thanks to them for welcoming v and I back with the new line-up. we also did a little filming here for a video project our friend cory is putting together. look for that soon. and to all that let us crash in their houses, we thank you. being a travelling musician is often a poor and thankless job, so it means a lot to us. ps - who knew grilled veggie dogs could taste so good? liz<--the drummer 29th June 2004
: the weekend tour.
hello kitties. this past weekend was full of jam-packed fun. we opened for Matt Pond PA at the continental on friday, travelled to arlington, virginia on saturday to play at the galaxy hut, and jetted up to philadelphia on sunday for as how at the fire... and then we drove through the night to get back to buffalo, which we did, at 7 am... and as we pulled into a local gas station after hours and hours of driving, the van busted, and limped to a shaky stop. oh dear sweet bessie III or whatever your name is... this weekend we're going to be in ithaca, playing with The Witching at castaways... and on saturday we're at the lucky cat in brooklyn with my dear friend Sabina, an amazing solo musician... thank you for your support thus far. we shant be strangers. joseph <---- the singer/guitarist guy. : our weekend
cleveland was a fun show. we got to play with our buffalo pals, the halo effect, oddly enough. they're good, you should check them out. (www.thehaloeffect.com) pats in the flats is a really cool place to play, cool people and cotton club soda, who could ask for more? thanks to steve for letting us play. We love our Esther. Everyone needs an Esther. Thanks for letting us crash your house and eat your food Esther! On our way to Cincinnati, we encountered a steven king like swarm of cicaidas. I thought it was the van because I am consistantly paranoid, but it turns out it was these pretty little bugs called Cicaidas. Unfortunately, if they fall on their back, they can't get up. Picture the little boy from A Christmas Story in his snowsuit. So, I saved one and brought him back outside. (he was on the floor of women's restroom) When I returned, I think he was squashed, presumably by an amish woman. Veronica stepped on one too. At the weekend's end, the final count that we know of was: Veronica: 2 dead Liz: 2 saved Joe: might have eaten one, we're not sure Anyhow, extra special thanks to Chaselounge, for being so hospitable. (www.chaseloungemusic.com) That band gets better and better each time we see them. We're taking this weekend off, then next week we make our first visit to Arlington and open for Matt Pond PA in Buffalo. (www.mattpondpa.com) Until we meet again, Liz (the drummer girl) (1 comment | talk to us) 29th May 2004

last night's show at the viva la casa benefit went well... despite some minor technical difficulties, some snaps, crackles, and pops, and some rain, all the bands sounded really great.
thank you to those of you who came out. and just remember, tonight you can see the wintersleepers with the quails, the mathematicians, and roma rela at mohawk place... so be there, chumps. joseph "eats with fury" mulhollen. 21st April 2004
